How does HelloJoey work?

With our parenting app, content is delivered purposefully in curriculum-style, meaning there’s a method to our madness. Our ten-minute kits are released twice per week, giving you plenty of time to absorb the information and use what you’ve learned. We address common parenting challenges and issues that you and your child may be facing. The app’s carefully planned content is designed for specific age groups in the 2–12 age range. After a year of listening, our parents should feel educated and well-prepared to take on future parenting challenges.

Are you a podcast?

While each kit comes with a collection of episodes that are similar to podcasts, we also include activities, which give you the opportunity to apply your new knowledge and wisdom. We believe that experience-based learning is the best way to integrate the advice into your own relationships. In the near future, we will be working on developing deeper online classes and an online resource directory for extended learning.

Why should I trust you?

We get it. When it comes to parenting, there are so many resources out there that it's hard to figure out where to start or whom to trust. We do the research for you. For every kit (topic) such as Picky Eating, our research team reviews 50-80 research papers and read books extensively. From those studies and books, we reach out to the top contributing psychologist, scientists, and child development experts to be a part of our consulting team. We make sure each contributing expert signs off on our content before the kit is published. We were serious when we said we want to create the perfect parenting app for you. Parenting is hard, and we want to help you on your journey.

What’s different about HelloJoey versus other parenting resources out there?

We dig science, and we believe that important scientific research and knowledge about child development can help us all understand our children better so we can parent and lead from a position of empathy. Each piece of content is backed by hours (sometimes hundreds of hours) worth of research. We translate complex scientific concepts so you don’t have to – think of us as translators, in a way.  We work with top scientists and childhood experts to create an app designed for problem-solving, though we hope you have a lot of fun listening and learning. We don’t tell you what to do, but we give you the tools to make decisions that are best for you and your family.

What’s unique about your content?

We cover a wide range of topics and scenarios that parents will encounter, from grocery store meltdowns to kids just not listening. But we don’t just zero in on their behavior and how to correct it; we look at problems holistically. This means we help you understand what’s going on inside your kid’s brain, body, and mind. While there can be a lot of value in reading other parents’ stories and anecdotes on parent forums or other parent-friendly websites, we provide a deeper understanding into how and why certain tactics actually work based on how your child is developing at the time.

How do you develop your content?

We’re all about helping you understand child development in a way that makes sense. We take the science behind parenting and make it accessible to you so you can apply it to any typical parenting challenge. Our priority is helping parents build a stronger relationship with their children. So, we don’t offer advice, per se, telling you how to make your child do this or that. Instead, we break down what’s happening inside your child when they’re experiencing things like a meltdown, picky eating habits or a growing independence.

Why can’t I get all your content all at once?

We love to binge-watch as much as the next Netflix subscriber. However, our content is not meant to be binge-consumed. While we love that you love us so much, there is a method to our madness. To get the most out of HelloJoey, it’s important to listen to our content, but also try the activities and check out the additional resources. We retain a small percentage of what we hear or read, and we pack a lot into our snack-sized morsels so there’s always something new to pick up.

Why is audio your featured format?

While designing our app, we considered several different formats to distribute our content, but found that audio was a great fit for busy, multitasking parents who are always on the go. You can listen while driving, sitting in the school carpool lane, waiting at the dentist or in those precious moments after the kids go to bed. We also include supporting materials, including relevant articles, episode transcripts, book recommendations and animated insights, so you can digest the content in other ways, too.

Why do you place so much emphasis on the parent-child relationship?

Because when it comes to raising children, that relationship is everything. The parent/guardian/primary caregiver role is the most important role in a child’s life. Our app focuses on children ages 0–12 because family bonding during the pre-puberty ages has proven to be key to a person’s mental health all throughout history. Using our app, parents can learn more about both themselves and their kids and rid themselves of negative emotions like guilt, anger, and shame in order to strengthen their relationships with their kids. We want you to feel empowered, not judged.
